Memorial Day is an American-Black-US History Holiday

There’s a lot to be said about Memorial Day. And to start, let us remember that Memorial Day is an American-Black-US History holiday.  A holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. So, to be inclusive, be sure to remember …

Children are NOT born racists.

Children are not born racists. It is a learned behavior from parents, relatives, friends, (Heaven forbid teachers) and others who have misinformation about African Americans. Providing children with a more positive image of African Americans and information regarding their numerous contributions to American/U.S. history will allow them to make their own judgements about African Americans and also allow them to have, in some cases, a better and more respectful relationship with Black people. Another reason …

Manuscript Done!!! Yeah!

So, now I need a couple third or fourth grade teachers or principals to be Beta Readers and provide a review. Any suggestions? It’s important, at least for me and my project, to provide teachers with content and to show them that incorporating Black History into their present curriculum isn’t difficult. I want to share that teaching Black History all year can be as easy as teaching about Thomas Edison or the railroad. You see, …

Black History IS American/US History!

Black history IS American History.  Period. The argument is old, so let it go. Kinda like the Trump thing.  It is what it is, let it go. So, what’s the problem? Same old thing really. Black children don’t seem to be inspired to think outside the box. Old news. Parents …

His time of two minutes 37.75 seconds also set an American record over the mile and a half distance (the Kentucky Derby became a 1.25 mile race in 1896). Lewis was one of 13 black jockeys …

No Black People in the world…

So, I’m lying in bed thinking – that really is a pretty profound statement…No Black people in the world. And I think, wow – no Black people really means there would be no people. Yep – No people. So, I thought I would get this out of the way. I saw a documentary either on the History Channel or Discovery Channel and it was explaining the evolution of man. And it all started in Africa. …

Hey there

My first post!  Yeah!  So, where do we start? First, let me say that I’ve done as much research as I can to ensure that the information provided in the books are correct.  Needless to say, if you find that I’ve made an error, please do not hesitate to let me know. I hope that there are a few teachers out there who will find the books helpful in introducing Black inventors and scientists into …
